Adieu

Speaking of fashion, this week I had to sacrifice the wednesday movies’ theme to tell you something about a model.

Probably you have heard about her, Isabelle Caro.

I know it’s an annoying argument, over discussed, but I have to do my part, as everyone. Our lives are made also of these arguments, not only of happy ones, as we want there to be only beautiful moments.

Well, Miss Caro was born in 1982 and since she was 13th she suffered from anorexia nervosa, caused by what she told ‘a trumbled childhood’. She also said that she started to slim down drastically when a fashion stylist told her that she had to loose 10 kilos. And she did it, and came to other modeling agencies and, although she was 40 kilos weight, nobody was hit by her exagerated skinnes, because they’re accustomed to see girls such skinny.

She was 30 kilos when she posed for Oliviero Toscani for a photo anti-anorexia for an italian brand. Isabelle decided to do this shoot beacuse she wanted to let people see what is anorexia really, how will you become if you’re anorexic, she fighted, she was in coma, but she re-started to eat.

Caro tryied to pass a law in Parliament saying that you can't model if you're too skinny, also if her anorexia was caused not only by fashion, but mainly by her family troubles.

Well, that’s another appeal to the entire world to help everybody who suffers of this terrible disease, not only physical, but psycological!

Everyone should feel beatiful in his body, fat, thin, tall, small, blonde hair, big nose: is our diversity to make us beautiful!

PS. Isabelle died the 17th november 2010…

A new start, a new life!

As every year, I would like to promise to myself that this year will be different.

But it could be a very ridicoulous thing to say. In fact every new year is different, every new year we’re older and every new year must be special.

However, I wanna say you that this year I’ll do my best:

  • I wanna travel, but more than last year ( I went in Liguria and in Amsterdam)
  • I wanna spend money and buy only for special things
  • I wanna be a very good friend
  • I wanna find my prince
  • I wanna be elegant, every day, for every occasion

Well, these are my intentions for the new year for now…I’ll update you if I wanna add something!

So I wish you a sparkling 2011, rich in happyness, smiles, sweetness and love!

xoxo,

A.

She wants to make the difference

Another wednesday, another movie.
It's Mona Lisa Smile Time, one of my favourite's movies.
A full-length movie, filled with everything from fashion, described simply perfect. We're between 1953 and 1954, one would think that the designers have taken up this film for fashion shows of this winter.
Long skirts, cardigans, starched shirts, hats, veils, red lipstick and strings of pearls.
Everything is so incredibly perfect.
Fashion has certainly a very important role in this movie, since that enriches every scene, every dialogue, debate, romantic moment are highlighted by the captivating beauty of the clothes that we dream today, because is tha peace and prosperity tipical of 50s that we dream today, in this period of crisis. And are these elements that tell the story, as well as to issues related to the irreversible change of that decade: contraception, divorce, free love, women's empowerment, new music, rock 'n'roll, unconventionality, which are opposed to the traditional, bourgeois values, the disparity between the sexes, the division of roles, pairs that divide people, but all of these things make you fall in love with that class of art of the female Wellesley College!
Such an amazing movie that went deep inside women souls searching for reasons why us, complete, wonderful and capable creatures are voluntarily lowering our own expectations from life when we literally have everything to open new worlds to the world we live in.

Enjoy, and fallow my advice!

My parents say my future is right on the horizon.
- Tell them the horizon is an imaginary line that recedes as you approach it.

Look beyond the paint. Let us try to open our minds to a new idea.

My teacher, Katherine Watson, lived by her own definition, and would not compromise that. Not even for Wellesley. I dedicate this, my last editorial, to an extraordinary woman who lived by example and compelled us all to see the world through new eyes. By the time you read this, she'll be sailing to Europe, where I know she'll find new walls to break down and new ideas to replace them with. I've heard her called a quitter for leaving, an aimless wanderer. But not all who wander are aimless. Especially not those who seek truth beyond tradition; beyond definition; beyond the image.

A movie for every week

Wednesday, in the middle of the week, is the perfect day to start a column!

So, every wednesday we’ll talk about …movies. Let’s get it started!

It’s Christmas time and in the frecious gift’s hunting (terrifying!) of these days I want to propose you the perfect movie to dream in the Christmas atmosphere.

Serendipity (2001) is about fate: “serendipity” is when you find something unexpected when you were looking forsomething else. So, it’s a love story dictated by destiny: they meet each other during Christmas shopping, they spend an evening together without exchange their names and telephone numbers. They’ll write them in a book (that she’ll sold) and in a banknote (with that he’ll pay something). Destiny will do everything.

Thanks to Sara (Kate Beckinsale), we can till dream and be hopeful, even when everything seems to be going wrong, because “fate is behind everything”, and we gotta have faith in destiny.

Life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences, but rather, it’s a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite sublime plan. imagesCAJIC0FAimagesCASBN46N

The man who lets us dream

‎Perchè la moda si porta addosso, un abito indossato da una donna e non da un manichino prende forma,la stoffa cade in un certo modo, la luce illumina certi punti

We’re talking about Renè Gruau (1909-2004).

He has been a fashion designer and changed the history of advertising in fashion, thanks to the collaboration with Christian Dior, with who he promoted the new look, a new female figure, who embodies the desire and define a lifestyle that makes you dream: sinuous silhouette, narrow waist, sides pronounced, many accessories.
His art consists in matching poster’s style resorts of Rimini, elegant and stylish, with the simple and linear Japanese prints made of bold colors and scenes that truncated hide, reveal, intrigue.

Enjoy!
